Live @ Xi | Summer 2026

WE ACCEPT APPLICATIONS ON A ROLLING BASIS.

NOTE: Summer housing at Xi Fellowship is open to current or recently-graduated college or university students (MIT or non-MIT, undergrad or grad).

Xi is a cat-friendly household! We have both roaming and non-roaming cats who live in our house.

Take a look at the sky, what do you see? A purple haze, perhaps? A giant flying squid? Millions of microscopic “Xiohazard” symbols? If any of these objects apply to you, then you have found a home...

Come live at Xi over the summer! In addition to being a very creative and welcoming co-ed fraternity, Xi attractions include:

  • Large, climate controlled rooms (yes, we have central AC! No more dealing with scorching hot rooms or installing complicated window units)

  • Numerous summer social events and gatherings

  • Fully-stocked fridges and an industrial-style kitchen for the ultimate cooking experience (our fridges are always filled)

  • A fully customizable house! Wanna paint murals in your room? Hang stuff from the ceiling? You're free to create your own space here! (pending house manager approval)

  • Free laundry (because apparently other places don't do that)

  • Pet friendly (Cats, snakes, fish, turtles, “fish”, etc. (talk to us!)

If you don't know us that well and want to get to know us better, contact xi-summer-house-manager@mit.edu to be added to our social events list.

Residential Notes

Important policies for living in the house (non-exhaustive):

  • Xi is a co-ed, LGBTQ+ friendly household. You must be okay living with residents of another gender or sexuality.

  • Xi is a cat-friendly household. You must be okay living with cats.

  • All summer residents are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to be on the summer meal plan. You are responsible for one cook or clean shift (~2 hours) each week as part of our meal plan. (If you cannot be on the meal plan for any reason, please talk to us! We're happy to accommodate you.)

  • All summer residents are responsible for at least one "work assignment" (chore) each week.

  • Residents in triples/quads/quints are required to host at least one standard social event (planned by the summer social chair) over the summer.

Important notes about the house:

  • Most beds (except for SOME singles) are lofted.

  • Our bathrooms are single-occupancy but shared across residents of the same floor.

  • We have free laundry!

  • We have an industrial kitchen and free use of communal ingredients.

FAQ

  • The sooner you sign a contract, the more likely we'll be able to give you the room of your choice. We can't guarantee you any particular room, however, since we do our best to maximize the overall happiness of our boarders when assigning rooming.

To a lock in a spot at the house, both the contract and full payment of rent prior to the start of the housing period is required. (If you are unable to make the full payment by the start of the housing period, please talk to us!)

  • Xi does not allow dogs to live in the house. If you would like to bring a cat to Xi this summer, your room options will be limited and you must contact us well in advance to discuss necessary constraints. Fish, nonvenomous reptiles, birds and small rodents are generally acceptable, provided that they are kept in enclosures and cared for/maintained entirely by you.

  • Use common sense here. If you would like to have someone regularly sleep over, or have a friend staying with you continuously stay with you for a week or so, that is okay. However, if someone is spending the majority of their nights at Xi, or is staying at Xi continuously for multiple weeks, they will be considered a resident and required to pay rent.

  • Xi regularly purchases bulk orders of food, and organizes a communal cooking plan for weeknight dinners. All residents, schedule permitting, will be expected to help cook dinner/clean up to one night a week. This food is open to all summer residents, and payments toward the food plan is mandatory.

  • For the most part, we will likely be unable to accommodate prorated rent; however, we are willing to discuss this on a case-by-case basis.

  • Our rooms are first come, first served. You get to pick your room type (single, double, triple or quad) when you sign a housing contract with us. So, the sooner you commit to living with us, the more likely you are to get your preferred setup. If you have a preference for a specific room in the house, let us know.

  • Xi has traditionally been a rather social living space during the summer. We host two socials a week, as well as a couple larger scale social events during the summer.

Squids, which is our weekly kickback, is traditionally hosted on Thursdays at 10:22pm in a triple, quad, or quint.

Lemonade is our other weekly event, generally a study break styled event on Monday nights at 9:22pm.

While there is a large variety in busyness between summer residents, we encourage people to be involved, and make some new friends along the way!

  • Yes, though you have to be a college (undergrad/grad) student or recent college graduate!

  • Xi is one block away from Newbury Street, a five minute walk from no less than 7 coffee shops, a Trader Joe's, and a Star Market, not to mention dozens of restaurants. Additionally, it's about a 22-minute walk to campus, and MBTA buses run across the bridge almost constantly.
